Is technological devices replacing the quality of real human to human interactions?

When the telecommunication industry first made its appearance in the Nigerian markets some few years ago, little did we know that what we had then was just a tip of an ice-berg concerning the numerous business opportunities and prestige that it was going to unfold many years later to Nigerians especially those who would be sharp enough to tap into its unending possibilities.
And so it goes, who can deny what our (Ojabo kofo) Nokia phones has given birth to. Not only phones but other devices like portable computers and the rest of its kinds.

Prior to what we have today in the country where a toddler could be able to differentiate between real phone and toy and can open a phone keypad locked to prevent they, the children from using it. That's it because we are now living in the tech age.

So as the years unfolds with more discoveries, little did we know that what started with the popular 3310 of this life would eventually graduate to holding or carrying the whole world in one's palm as we have it today using our various androids of endless features and others like that.

Before now, we can still recall what it takes for one to have access to and even to own  an email address in Nigeria, many also because of the possibilities of chatting with people who are  millions of kilometers apart, spend their nights in cybercafes' for the fun and wonderful possibilities of it all,   and as if that wasn't enough, some unscrupulous individuals also devised another methods of using that possibilities to scam unwary but fellow greedy individuals like themselves, which gave birth to the popular YAHOO-YAHOO of a thing today.
Yahoo boys

Because of  that now, anyone using the computer with the internet connected is usually viewed with suspicions because the yahoo boys operate in a similar way.

But meanwhile, that's not the real intents of this post which rather has a lot to do with the real values of the ever evolving technological devices, mainly phones and other related handheld portable devices and laptop computers.

There is no doubt that the advent of technology in Nigeria has come along with so many opportunities for people of all levels both the educated and the not too educated, mainly to those who have the interests to explore the modern trends.

Certainly, if not for the infotech, many wouldn't have been where they are today, both for the exposures and wealth wise.

At this juncture now just like a vehicle that had traveled a long distance with a destination in mind, it is now time for us to branch at a particular place, that is our destination for this write up, for us to make that to stand out, we are going to subtitle the main purpose of this piece.

Is the modern technologies taking away our core values or we are sharing it together with them?

Please let us be patient enough to have this question (s) analyzed properly
.
Before the inception of telecom industries with all the sophisticated devices that works with them to make life more fun, Were we not living? Were the husbands and wives together with their children not having some swell times together as a family? Before the modern technologies, Don't we value our fellow humans? When did all these started, that it has suddenly become technology and it's possibilities first? Are we now giving priorities to these devices in place of fellow humans even to one's self?

The way some of us tend to be glued with their tech devices these days makes it look as if their life is attached to it and that once it gets disconnected, it would be would be all over for them!

A wife or husband may be so busy with their phones that whatever it is that could not wait for the reply or sending of the various chatting platform engagement has to go to hell!.

The manufacturers of these devices actually want them to last for the buyers, and so as an ethical responsibility, they usually indicate in a warning: to be handled with care, and really, many are good in following this advice but the way some go about it is dangerously alarming.

Sometimes when you hear threats being issued to the children concerning the vulnerabilities of some delicate devices, you may wonder if something else is attached therein.

Though, not against taking care of the devices that a person had acquired with his or her hard earned money, but the way some people go about it at times leaves a whole lot to marvel.

Take this as example, there has been cases whereby an adult precisely, either a father or perhaps a mother angrily spanked their minor for touching their phones or any other devices of higher values so to say and injuring the child in the process.

While cases like that may be looked at as deserved punishments for stubborn children, but what about a situation that a young man killed his five months old daughter out of annoyance for distracting his computer game?            Too bad, you say, but it did happen and that was never the last of such cases.

So without going into much  many details, the way technology with its numerous devices has turned things in the world today, are indeed some serious causes for concerns among the senior populace in the societies today.

The mixed impacts of it are highly felt all around us. The good, the not too good, and in fact, the ugly sides of it leaves less to be desired.

We are not condemning this wonderful and easy life devices, but it would make enough sense for us always to remember that there was a time, especially we in the Africa, when we did not have these devices.
The can do alls!

The westerners who had for a long time been in use of them also has lot of cases to answer for the same -technology first attitudes- that had infiltrated the universe.

We are Africans and should be proud of our our cultures and be wise enough not to allow what we bought with our own money to turn us away from ourselves.

The technology devices with its various features are meant to help us fix things together and not to tear us apart and have it replace real human to human interactions. Let us be wise and use it accordingly as its growths is now threatening  to become a worldwide problem instead of the solutions it was meant to be.
